A barrel sample of the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection offers terrific fruit intensity and purity, a more laid-back style, a meaty, chewy texture, and impressive opulence as well as length. It should evolve for 10-15 years. Not yet released.
There is no doubting that Cabernet Sauvignon is King at Caymus. The winery's 60-plus acres of estate Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley's Rutherford District continue to form the foundation of Caymus Cabernets. For nearly twenty years this winery has excelled at producing the lavishly-oaked, big, spicy, luxury-priced Special Selection offering.
"Caymus' 'Special Selection' bottling was first produced in 1975, and every vintage since the original rendition of the wine has stayed true to its name. Favored grape clusters from individual blocks are set aside for Special Selection. The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in French oak barrels.
