1997 was a cool season in Western Australia with many tightly structured wines of firm tannin produced throughout the state. The 1997 Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot is characteristic of the season with dense tannin and concentrated berry fruits. It is a classy wine that I believe needs at least another five years to soften and emerge as an approachable wine.
